Peripheral Neuritis

Peripheral Neuritis denotes inflammation, degeneration, or demyelinization of the nerves due to a wide variety of diseases.

1. Aconite Napellus [Acon]
In simple neuritis acute stage, caused by exposure to cold, Aconite is the only remedy needed when applied early. The numbness, coldness, tearing pains, nightly aggravation, with mental anguish, will indicate the remedy. Numbness and tingling; shooting pains; icy coldness and insensibility of hands and feet. Arms feel lame, bruised, heavy, and numb. Better in open air; worse in warm room, in evening and night; worse lying on affected side, from music, from tobacco-smoke, dry, cold winds. 

2. Arnica. [Arn]
This remedy seems to have a selective affinity in relieving terminal nerve pain and the soreness and bruiseness will be the indications. Many observers think it all sufficient in neuritis. If it fails some resort to Bellis perennis, which is very often curative with intense nerve pains and great soreness.

3. Hypericum. [Hyp]
Traumatic neuritis with sharp cutting pain, where nerves have been lacerated and the parts exceedingly sore. The great remedy for injuries to nerves, especially of fingers, toes and nails. Excessive painfulness is a guiding symptom to its use. This remedy prevents lockjaw. Facial neuralgia and toothache of a pulling, tearing character, with sadness. Heavy; feels as if touched by an icy cold hand. Throbbing in vertex which is worse in close room. 

4. Rhus toxicodendron. [Rhus-t]
In the traumatic occasionally, but more especially in the rheumatic variety is Rhus curative. It has tearing, drawing and shooting pains. Exposure neuritis --or that due to over exertion coupled with exposure finds in it a curative remedy. It also suits the gouty form. General Rhus symptoms such as amelioration by motion and aggravation from coldness and dampness will prevail. 

5. Cimicifuga. [Cimic]
Alcoholic neuritis will frequently indicate this remedy. Ledum and Plumbum are also remedies for the alcoholic variety, and the latter is especially indicated in cases where atrophy appears, no matter what the variety. Agitation and pain indicate it the use of Cimicifuga. Pains are like electric shocks here and there radiating through out the body.  

6. Arsenicum Album [Ars alb]
Arsenic alb is a powerful remedy in neuritis and its best field seems to be in multiple neuritis of a severe type, with the characteristic symptoms of burning worse at night and relief by heat. It will suit especially the broken down constitutions, anaemic conditions and irritability so often accompaniments of multiple neuritis. Phosphorus is also frequently indicated and employed in the multiple varieties. 

7. Anantherum muriaticum [Anan]
Has cured root neuritis and Thallium should be studied here. Carburetum sulphuris has been used successfully in neuritis, especially in the sciatic variety.

8. Plumbum metallicum [Plumb met]

Localized neuralgic pains, neuritis with stinging and tearing in limbs. Complaints are worse at night and motion. Better by rubbing, hard pressure, and physical exertion.

9. Coffea cruda [Coffea]

Coffea is characterised by extreme sensitiveness of the remedy. Remedy has neuralgia in various parts of the body; always with great nervous excitability and intolerance of pain, driving to despair. Unusual activity of mind and body is marked. Bad effects of sudden emotions like surprises, joy, etc. Worse, excessive emotions, narcotics, strong odors, noise, open air, cold, night. Better from warmth, from lying down.

10. Kalmia Lattifolia [Kalmia]

Mainly a heart remedy with predominant neuralgic affections. Neuralgia pains shoot downwards, with numbness. Neuralgia is worse on right side. Stitches and tearing in bones of jaw and face.
