Dandruff
Dandruff is a very common form of scalp irritation.
Dandruff is characterized by accelerated cell turnover ? in other words, the
cells on the surface of your skin build up like crazy.Typically, it takes 21 days for new cells to migrate to the surface. ?Ideally,
it?s an invisible process. But with dandruff, the cell reaches the surface in
half the time.? As a result, cells build of your scalp, where they are shed up
on your scalp in clumps before they?re shed. And when they shed, they look like
tiny white flakes.
Symptoms-
Dry skin.
Simple dry skin ? the kind you get in winter when the air is cold and
rooms are overheated ? is by far the most common cause of itchy, flaking skin.
But flakes from dry skin are generally smaller and less oily than those caused
by dandruff.
Seborrheic dermatitis. This condition, a
frequent cause of dandruff, is marked by red, greasy skin covered with flaky
white or yellow scales. Seborrheic dermatitis affects not only your scalp but
also other areas rich in oil glands, such as your eyebrows, the sides of your
nose and the backs of your ears, your breastbone, your groin area, and
sometimes your armpits.
Psoriasis. This skin disorder causes an
accumulation of dead skin cells that form thick silvery scales. Psoriasis
commonly occurs on your knees, elbows and trunk, but it can also affect your
scalp.
Cradle cap (seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp).
This disorder, which causes a scaling, crusty scalp, is most common in
newborns, but it can occur anytime during infancy. Although it can be alarming
for parents, cradle cap isn't dangerous and usually clears up on its own by the
time a baby is a year old.
Contact dermatitis. Sometimes sensitivities
to certain hair-care products or hair dyes can cause a red, itchy, scaling
scalp
Remedies-
1. Phosphorus [Phos]
Phos mainly indicated in tall, slender persons, narrow chested,
with thin, transparent skin, weakened by loss of animal fluids, with great
nervous debility, emaciation and amative tendencies. Great susceptibility to
external impressions, to light, sound, odors, touch, electrical changes,
thunder-storms is also marked. In scalp skin of forehead feels too tight.
Itching of scalp, dandruff, falling out of hair in large bunches.
2. Arsenic
Album [Ars-Alb]
Ars alb patient is marked by Great anguish and restlessness at the mental sphere. Scalp is very sensitive
in open air. Head is in constant motion. Scalp itches
intolerably; circular patches of bare spots; rough, dirty, sensitive, and
covered with dry scales; nightly burning and itching; dandruff. Scalp is very
sensitive and cannot brush hair.
3. Thuja
Occidentalis [Thuja]
The main action of Thuja is on the
skin with ill effects from vaccinations. Thuja has white, scaly dandruff; hair dry
and falling out in bunches. Emotionally sensitive with fixed ideas for every
thing.
4. Kalium Muriaticum
[Kali Mur]
Kali Mur is one of the best
remedies for Dandruff. Indicated in cases of dandruff with scaling and thick
crust formation Characteristic tongue of Kali Mur is White or gray coating of base of tongue, and expectoration of
thick, white phlegm.
5. Sanicula
Aqua [Sanicula]
Sanicula child is very cranky and
irritable always wants to be carried and constantly needing breast milk. They
are better in open air. Crankiness and irritability are the keynote indications
for the prescription of the remedy. They have profuse scaly dandruff with soreness
behind ears.
6. Badiaga
[Badiaga]
Badiaga is usually in muscular
problems which are aggravated from motion but has also good action on dandruff
when it is indicated. Dandruff on scalp sore like dry, tettery like scales.
Dull and dizzy feeling in head.
7. Kalium
Sulphuricum [Kali Sulph]
Ailments in Kali Sulph are accompanied
by profuse desquamation. Dandruff on scalp with discharge which are yellow,
mucoid or serous discharges, profuse and intermittent.
8. Ammonium
Muriaticum [Amm Mur]
It is especially adapted to fat and
sluggish patients who have respiratory and skin troubles. Hair falls out, with
itching in scalp and dandruff. Head feels full and compressed which is worse in
mornings.
9. Medorrhinum
[Medo]
Medo is one of the most deep acting
remedies in homeopathy curing many chronic problems like depression,
rheumatism, dandruff etc. Indicated in itching of scalp with burning pains. Dryness
of hair.
10. Cochlearia
Armoracia [Coch Arm]
It is specific for dandruff and
acts by local applications.
